Summary:- Many Outlook users out there are not aware of NST files. They are storage files like OST and PST, used by various versions of Microsoft Outlook. So, in this handout, we will go through what this file extension is and how a user can create it. You will also learn about the location of this file where they are stored.

What Is NST File Extension?

When a user of Outlook 2016 or lower version configures Office 365 account with Outlook, Outlook syncs the group a cached local copy of Office 365 in the Group Storage Table File(GST). After this, the users can use the Office 365 groups offline. This NST works the same as the OST file works for the mailbox to access offline.

NST files are also an add-in by Microsoft, which makes it possible to use IBM Notes on Outlook. It contains Notes, messages, calendars, contacts, etc., to use offline. However, these files may grow large and inconvenience Outlook usage. So, if you are thinking of deleting the NST file, these get recreated by the connector add-in. If you want to delete these files, you have to remove the Outlook profile.

Where is NST File Located?

This file is stored in the exact location where the OST file is located. You can follow the below steps to locate the NST file. You can refer to the following locations for navigating to the NST file:

  • Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10 – C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\
  • Windows XP – C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\
