DBF files are database files used by the data management software called dBase. It was first used in dBase II and then was used until dBase IV. It was founded by Ashton-Tate. DBF files store the data in the form of an array containing fields and records in it.
At the starting point of the personal computers, the corporate world began using this program called dBase IV to save their merchandise. Although, it is no more used but earlier programs like FoxPro, Clipper, Wordtech, Act!, xBase, Arago, etc use dbf file format.
