How to Extract PST from EDB Exchange Mailboxes

Extensible Storage Engine Database File or EDB file store entire mailbox data. Hence to store in-process and non-SMTP messages, there are exchange database files called the EDB files. For accessing EDB file, Exchange Server must be present. EDB file encloses all the data of the Exchange Account like emails, calendar, notes, tasks, contacts, etc.

Manual way to extract Exchange Mailbox Data from EDB file into PST

Method 1: Using ExMerge Utility

ExMerge Utility exports mailbox to an exchange PST file

1. Download and install ExMerge Utility
2. Log in to the Microsoft Exchange server account
3. Select Export or Import(Two-step procedure) and then click on the Next button
4. Now, choose Extract data from an Exchange Server and then again press Next
5. A new window called Data Selection criteria is now opened.
   1.  First of all, click on the Import Procedure tab and then select archive data to the target store and then press OK button
   2. Now, click on the Message Details tab and then after entering the detail, press the OK button
6. After that, a list of mailboxes will be presented. Choose the desired one and then press the Next button
7. Now, provide a location to save the PST file by clicking on the Browse button and then click on the Next button
8. Soon the process will be completed. Press the Finish button to exit the application

Method 2: Using Exchange Management Shell

1. First of all, go to the Exchange Management Shell and then use PowerShell cmdlet “NewMailboxExportRequest”
2. Now, type the following syntax  “New-MailboxExportRequest -Mailbox“<Mailbox name>” -FilePath” “<destination file path>”

Here, the mailbox is the one that you need and then file path is the destination path where you want to save your PST file after extracting EDB file

Method 3: Using the Exchange Admin Center

This method can only be used to extract mailbox exchange from newer versions like 2013, 2016, and 2019. To extract Exchange Mailbox Data from EDB file into PST by using Exchange Admin Center are as follows:

1. First of all, go to the Exchange Online and then open Exchange Admin Center
2. Click on the Recipients tab on the left-hand side and then choose Select Mailbox
3. Now, a list of the mailbox is opened. Right-click on the required mailbox and then select Export to a PST file
4. Now two options will be available, choose one of the two options given below and then click on the Next button
   • Export only the contents of this mailbox
   • Export only the contents of this mailbox’s archive
5. Specify the location where you want to save the Exchange mailbox data and then press the Next button
6. In the next page, check the “Send email to the mailbox below when the .pst file has been exported” box and then provide the name of the mailbox and then click on the Finish button

Method 4: A Direct Ways for Extracting Mailbox from EDB in PST
